Studio Twistwood: from online comic to creative brand

When the Twistwood Tales first appeared on Twitter & Instagram in September 2019, they hit an instant chord with readers around the world. With no marketing nor promotional activity in place at all, the online comics attracted an international community of over 200,000 readers within the first 12 months. Completely non-commercial, Twistwood Tales are free to read online, created by author and illustrator @bytwistwood in his spare time, alongside a full-time day job.

As his fast-growing readership began to proactively request Twistwood Tales books & merchandise, @bytwistwood recognised an opportunity to fulfil his readers’ desire to ‘buy into’ Twistwood, whilst potentially also generating a revenue stream that would enable him to devote more time to developing fresh Twistwood content.

I was delighted to work with @bytwistwood to develop interlinked brand strategies for ‘Studio Twistwood’ and the Twistwood Tales, in order to create a firm foundation for his future growth. Researching the options available to him as an online creator planning his first steps into ecommerce and print, I developed a tailor-made action plan to support @bytwistwood through the months ahead. Bringing together PR, product development, digital strategy and publishing advice, the action plan is designed to support @bytwistwood in his transformation of the Twistwood Tales from online comic, to story brand - without ever compromising the integrity of the value set that gives the Twistwood Tales their magic.

It has been a pleasure and a treat to get to know the characters of Twistwood in the course of this project, and I look forward to seeing where their future stories may lead them!
